The MRC Pontiac marks World Agritourism Day by highlighting four agricultural markets in the Pontiac

19 May 2023 à 10:31 am

This week, the MRC Pontiac marked World Agritourism Day, which took place on May 16. The MRC Pontiac’s economic development commissioner, Shanna Armstrong, pointed out that the Pontiac territory has a long and rich agricultural heritage. And the MRC’s agriculture past is still crucial part of its present. The MRC Pontiac will see four different local agricultural markets take place in the Pontiac this year.

“Yes, exactly, this year, we have 4 Markets across the Pontiac. There is the Bristol Market, which is in Norway Bay on the beach on Saturday, May 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is the Marché Fermier du Pontiac which takes place at the R&R farm in Clarendon which opened last Saturday, but it’s open all summer from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays. The new Shawville Market which is also on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. And finally our beautiful Marché de Chapeau on Thursdays, and opens June 8th from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.”

– Shanna Armstrong, Commissioner of Economic Development at the MRC Pontiac

Shanna Armstrong added that this industry has evolved significantly over the past decade, not only to continue and perfect traditional agricultural practices, but also to innovate and grow our farms as a way to accommodate a diverse offering that includes hops, vineyards, fiber farms as well as non-traditional herds such as llamas, yaks and ostriches.
