Mayors pass resolution asking for Hydro-Quebec substation in Waltham
At the MRC Pontiac council of mayors meeting last night (March 15), a resolution was passed calling on Hydro-Quebec to build an electrical substation in Waltham. The request was another response by the council to an outage that occurred in the Upper Pontiac during a cold snap in the beginning of February, leaving many without power for the course of a very cold weekend.
The resolution requests that Hydro-Quebec set aside money in its next budget cycle to construct an electrical substation in Waltham, at an estimated cost of $100 million. The resolution calls the construction a “viable solution to the recurring problems of power outages in Upper Pontiac” and points out that Hydro-Quebec has a $5 billion infrastructure improvement fund. The request will also be forwarded to various ministers in the Quebec government, as well as other government bodies in the region to seek their support.
