15 August 2022 à 12:00 am

A drowning took place this past Saturday (August 13) on the Black River in Waltham. As Hélène St-Pierre of the Sûreté du Québec explained, two women were sitting in inflatable tubes when one, a 68-year-old, dropped a personal item in the water.

“It happened on Saturday, around 3:45 p.m. the emergency services were called to go to the Black River in Waltham concerning a person in distress,” she said (translated). “So, according to preliminary information, well, two women were descending the Black River using inflatable tubes then one of the women appears to have dropped a personal object in the water and, while trying to recover it, she ended up in the water without a life jacket. So the 68-year-old woman had to be rescued. She was taken to the hospital where unfortunately her death was confirmed.”

The identity of the victim has not been released at this point.
