Poppy campaign underway in Pontiac

Poppy campaign underway in Pontiac

4 November 2021 à 12:00 am

With Remembrance Day approaching next week, the Pontiac Legion is raising funds for their annual poppy campaign. Residents can make a donation at any one of the numerous poppy boxes at stores throughout the community or purchase a wreath for ceremonies in their community.

Branch President Ron Woodstock explained that the money raised by the poppy boxes and wreath sales goes towards various people in need in the community, and is usually distributed near the end of the year. While the legion does prioritize veterans or their families, many of their donations go to civilians as well. Woodstock said that last year they raised around $8,500. He said that all the donations that come out of the poppy fund have to be approved by Dominion Command.

To contact the Pontiac Legion about purchasing a wreath or becoming a member, you can call the hall at 819 648 5889 or contact Woodstock directly at 819 467 5535.

The full interview with Woodstock is available here.
