New Liberal Party candidate talks with CHIP about the election
Newly announced Liberal candidate Sophie Chatel spoke with CHIP 101.9 yesterday about her background and her plans for the upcoming election, set to conclude on September 20.
Chatel, who resides in Cantley, is trained as a lawyer and a CPA and has worked in the federal government, as well as international organizations.
Chatel said that her priorities for the region would be improving internet and cell phone connectivity throughout the entire Pontiac.
“I am shocked at how many houses and businesses we have that are not connected to high-speed internet.”
She also said she would like to improve public transit and affordable housing throughout the region. Chatel had considered a run at politics back in 2015, but ultimately decided to continue with her career in finance.
She said that her candidacy process was very quick, being announced just a day after outgoing Liberal MP Will Amos announced that he would not be seeking reelection. Amos’s announcement came in the wake of two high-profile blunders he made earlier in the year, getting caught naked in a parliamentary video conference in April and urinating in a coffee cup in May.
Chatel is also scheduled to attend CHIP 101.9’s candidates debate on August 25 at the Pontiac Conference Centre in Fort Coulonge. The full interview with Chatel can be found here.
