Another day of strike for support workers

27 May 2021 à 12:00 am

The support staff of the Centre de services scolaire des Hauts-Bois-de-l’Outaouais (CSSHBO) demonstrated yesterday (May 26) at the beginning of the afternoon and again this morning (May 27) by holding a line of picket in front of the Francoeur restaurant on Route 148 in Mansfield. With the salary offers being deemed insufficient, the president of the Conseil central des syndicats nationaux de l’Outaouais (CCSNOCSN) Alfonso Ibarra Ramirez, believes that its members had no choice. He even claimed that the Legault government puts concrete before humans.

On May 2, by wanting to justify his meager salary increases of 5% over three years, Mr. Legault brought us the same tape, which comes back to each negotiation: Quebec does not have the capacity to pay more for its utilities. Two weeks later, on May 17, he announced with great fanfare investments of 10 billion to dig a tunnel between Quebec and Lévis. This is the ultimate demonstration that managing public finances is all about choice. And currently, by refusing to recognize the glaring needs of the networks, the government is choosing to deprive Quebeckers of the Outaouais region of the services to which they are entitled
– Alfonso Ibarra Ramirez, President of the CCSNOCSN

More than 1,000 CSN members of the support staff in the Cœur-des-Vallées and Hauts-Bois-de-l’Outaouais school service centers are on strike today, May 27, until midday.

The full interview with CCSNOCSN Union President Alfonso Ibarra Ramirez is available here.
