Police operation in a drug trafficking case: search on Dempsey Street in Fort-Coulonge

The Escouade régionale mixte (ERM) Outaouais, in collaboration with the Gatineau Police Department carried out an operation on Wednesday relating to drug trafficking in the region of Gatineau, Kazabazua, Fort-Coulonge and Saint-Lin–Laurentides.

The police carried out 16 searches targeting eight residences and eight vehicles on chemin Proulx, rue Notre-Dame, rue de Condé and rue Bridge, in Gatineau, rue Dempsey, in Fort-Coulonge, chemin de la Gare d’Aylwin, in Kazabazua as well as on rue du Parc, in Saint-Lin – Laurentides.

During these searches, the police seized:

• Almost 3.5 kilos of cocaine;
• Over $ 82,000 in Canadian dollars;
• 7 vehicles seized as infringing goods;
• A loaded handgun;
• An electric pulse weapon;
• A bulletproof jacket;
• Brass knuckles;
• 10 cell phones;
• Items used for drug trafficking

Seven men aged between 26 and 56 and a 42-year-old woman were arrested and subsequently released on warning. The address and identity of the person searched in Fort-Coulonge has not been disclosed.

Those arrested will have to return to court at a later date at the Gatineau courthouse. They could face several charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, drug trafficking and firearms offenses. The investigation was initiated in October 2020 following information received from the public and shows that the suspects are linked to the motorcycle group the Devils Ghosts. The ERM Outaouais is made up of the Sûreté du Québec and the Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau. The ERMs are partnerships between police services whose objective is to pool resources to better fight organized crime, in all regions of Quebec.
