A resolution by Councilor Louis Lair adopted unanimously

5 March 2021 à 12:00 am

Following the revelations of CHIP 101.9 concerning the recurring problems experienced by residents of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes with the their telephone line, the municipal council unanimously adopted a resolution to raise Bell’s awareness of the problems experienced by the citizens.

This resolution, presented by Councilor Louis Lair at the L’Isle-aux-Allumettes Council meeting on Tuesday (March 2), recommends that it be immediately submitted to Bell in order to immediately resolve this problem. It is also recommended that this resolution be sent to elected provincial and federal officials, as well as to the CRTC.

“Whereas it is recognized that many fixed line users do not have cell phone service because there is no or very little reception, while it is recognized that Bell Canada has performed some maintenance work on its fixed lines in Isle-aux-Allumettes in recent months, the problem persists, given that Bell Canada continues to receive the full price of its monthly service charges despite the numerous outages, given of the negative impact this has created on our public safety, it is recommended that this resolution be immediately submitted to Bell ”- Extract from the resolution presented by Councilor Louis Lair.

Remember that some residents of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes saw their telephone line sometimes interrupted for nearly 48 hours.

This proposed resolution is being presented to Council due to the fact a request had been made two months ago to council and Mayor Sunstrum indicated he would contact Bell Canada on our behalf with the clear intent of addressing problems experienced with Bell Canada’s landlines. Due to the number of recent complaints and recurring problems experienced with Bell’s landlines, I am proposing the following resolution:

– Whereas Bell Canada has failed to provide proper maintenance to their landlines on Allumettes Island.

– Whereas the lack of maintenance by Bell Canada has created a serious number of outages to their landlines.

– Whereas the outages has created a serious public security issue where residents do not have access to 911 service during the outages.

– Whereas it is recognized that numerous landline users do not have cellular phone service as there is no or very restricted reception.

– Whereas it is recognized that Bell Canada has conducted some maintenance to their landlines on Allumettes Island over the past few months, however, the problem continues to persist.

– Whereas Bell Canada continues to collect their full rate of their monthly service charges despite the numerous outages.

Considering the negative impact this has created to our public security, it is recommended this resolution be immediately submitted to Bell Canada with the intent of immediately addressing this problem. It is also recommended that this resolution be sent to both our Provincial and Federal elected officials, and to the Commission for Complaints for Telecom-Television Services.
