Federal Liberal MPs from the Outaouais, including Pontiac MP William Amos, as well as Greg Fergus (Hull-Aylmer), Steven MacKinnon (Gatineau) and Stéphane Lauzon (Argenteuil-La Petite-Nation), supported the Hydrogen production plant project by electrolysis of water led by Évolugen and Gazifère. This project should allow the production of about 20 megawatts of energy and will, according to the federal Liberal MPs from the region, reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Outaouais, in addition to bringing considerable economic benefits to the regional, provincial and national levels.

This power station will be built in Gatineau, in the Masson-Angers sector, in the riding of Argenteuil – La Petite-Nation. The green hydrogen produced there will be injected into Gazifère’s natural gas distribution network, making it the first project of its kind in Canada.

“This project clearly underlines the relevance of the financial support and investments of the Government of Canada to help reduce costs, improve performance and develop a new green economic sector right here in the Outaouais. We will support the advancement of this project not only because it is good for the whole region, but also because it will help Canada reach net zero and stay on the cutting edge of clean energy technology ”, believes the member for Pontiac and president of the Caucus of federal deputies of the Outaouais, William Amos.

The project proposed by Évolugen and Gazifère is part of the new Canadian hydrogen strategy and the new federal climate plan, unveiled at the end of 2020, which will put us on the path to achieving our climate objective of carbon neutral by 2050. The project is expected to build on a federal investment of $ 1.5 billion in a fund for low-carbon, zero-emission fuels, the hydrogen strategy will boost further investment and growth in the alternative fuels sector in Canada while encouraging the development and adoption of clean fuels such as hydrogen.
