Statistics from the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de l’Outaouais have declined in recent weeks, the acting director of public health at the CISSS de l’Outaouais, Brigitte Pinard, has nevertheless warned the population of the risks of new cases of COVID-19, given community transmission.

“All the data leads us to conclude that we are headed in the right direction. There has been a downward trend in the number of active cases, the number of outbreaks and the number of hospitalizations, since the implementation of additional health measures on January 8. We must nevertheless keep in mind that the situation remains precarious, it is fragile, because there is still community transmission throughout the territory. What must be said is that we could quickly experience a new outbreak of cases, ”said Dr. Brigitte Pinard.

The number of active cases has decreased throughout the Outaouais region. Last December, the number of active cases in the Outaouais was 352, this Sunday (January 31), the region had 145 active, including 5 cases or less in the Pontiac local health network. The CISSS de l’Outaouais has not advanced either on the changes that could be announced by the Legault government, but it was mentioned that the possibility of seeing the government’s measures relaxed in the Outaouais is plausible.

“The data is encouraging, we can see that the additional measures in place have borne fruit. It is important to make sure that the curve can continue to descend. It is certain that if the trend continues it is possible that we will see some easing of measures in the region. The decision for our region will be made by the government. However, it is important to continue to apply the measures in place by February 8 to see an improvement, ”said Dr. Pinard, cautiously.

Recall that François Legault says he is preparing to make new announcements concerning confinement Tuesday at 5 p.m. He reiterated his desire to want to relax some rules after February 8, but that measures could remain in place. COVID-19 case statistics from the CISSS de l’Outaouais are available here.
