A Facebook group invited the population to demonstrate against the government’s measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the name “Taking back the Pontiac !! », the group planned a demonstration in the streets of Fort-Coulonge this Sunday (January 10). Under the title “Let’s Voice Our Rights! “, the organizers mention that “the time to sit quietly and see our freedoms being taken away is over. When we can no longer do the local groceries or buy clothes for our children in the dead of winter, it’s time to get up ”. The organizers invite people to bring their Canadian flags.

Last week, members of this group gathered in Shawville. Several people had signs asking for an end to the confinement as well as some posters indicating that “Jesus is an essential service”. The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said it had intervened by indicating to some demonstrators who did not respect the distancing measures, that they could face fines. The SQ said that no fines were issued as the protesters subsequently dispersed.
