In conclusion to the series of Public consultations on the Strategic Planning Vision Statement, CHIP 101.9 spoke to the Warden of the MRC Pontiac Jane Toller regarding what Pontiac residents consider to be a priority for the next 20 years. For most of the residents of the MRC Pontiac, the main priority is clear: a better internet and cellular service.

A Reoccurring Theme

Pontiac residents agree that a better internet and cellular network is the next step in which the next 10 to 20 years will lean on. A project proposal in the name of Connections Fiber Piconoc is currently under evaluation by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), the results will undoubtedly greatly impact many of the projects and ideas raised by the residents during the public consultations, such as Economic Development, Tourism, Forestry and Culture.

The topic of Internet and Cellular services was also addressed in different forms. During Vision 2020 A better quality internet and cell service was identified as a top priority. When asked about Vision 2020, Toller responded with dismay at how much scrutiny has surrounded the unfinished projects of Vision 2020.

Approximately 150 citizens attended the 11 public consultations held throughout the MRC Pontiac over recent weeks, bringing a number of topics and ideas forward. According to Jane Toller, efforts will be made to include each of the ideas into the Final draft of the Strategic Planning Vision.
