With the several centimeters of snow that have accumulated, the Sûreté du Québec reminds motorists to install their winter tires, even if the Highway Safety Code states that all vehicles registered in Quebec must be equipped with winter tires as of December 15th.

A resolutions has been tabled by the Ministry of Transport, last week, changing of the deadline to December 1. If your vehicle is not equipped with winter tires, the Sûreté du Québec suggests you find a safe alternative, such than public transit or carpooling. Owners of non-compliant vehicles will be subject to a minimum fine of $ 200 plus fees. Sergeant Marc Tessier, of the SQ, reminds us to adapt our behavior to the conditions of the road.

The police could serve fines if they notice that the speed of a motorist is excessive in relation to the road conditions, even if the normal speed limit is respected. The SQ invites drivers to consult the websites of the Quebec Ministry of Transport, Sustainable Mobility and Electrification of Transportation and the Quebec Automobile Insurance Corporation to better understand the rules of the road.
