Will Amos uses the Pontiac as an example of Canada’s historic site Conservation

In a press release issued yesterday, the member for Pontiac issued a report from the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development. This report talks about the conservation of Canada’s historic sites.

The report Preserving Canada’s Heritage: The Fundamentals of Our Future, offers 17 recommendations to better protect these places. The Committee’s study was spread over seven meetings during which it heard from 27 individuals with knowledge in these matters.

To explain the various recommendations of the report, Will Amos took examples from Pontiac: He said that the federal government must support the efforts of Canadians to better protect historic sites. He used as examples, the George Bryson House and the Félix-Gabriel-Marchand Bridge, both located in Mansfield-et-Pontefract, as being true symbols of the Pontiac that deserve to be treated as such. “The regional rich cultural heritage across Canada must be preserved. The end of the press release stated that the federal government must first set an example by passing legislation to provide better legal protection for federal heritage buildings and national historic sites under its jurisdiction.
