For the past two years, the Outaouais francophone school boards have noticed the loss of ratepayers, who seem to migrate to the Western Quebec school board, due to lower tax rates than francophone school boards.

The four Francophone school boards of the Outaouais, Cœur-des-Vallées, des Draveurs, des Hauts-Bois-de-l’Outaouais and des Portages-de-l’Outaouais boards, are hoping for a quick action and expect a the Quebec government to stop this migration to the English-language board.

With the support of the chair of the Western Quebec school board, they are calling for school taxes to be standardized throughout Quebec.

In April, the national assembly created a petition on its site that has garnered over 3000 signatures to date. As of April 5, the date of the last meeting with the regional deputy and the Ministry of Education and Higher learning, no solution had been proposed.
